Position Summary:
Provide scheduled instruction, manage the classroom environment, and promote student learning in the regular classroom teacher's absence. The role involves utilizing technology, modeling positive communication skills, adhering to Board of Education policies, and maintaining professional confidentiality.
Qualifications:
- Must have valid Substitute Certificate issued by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
- Valid Teacher Certification preferred but not required.
- The District will also consider students currently in their final year of the Teacher Education Program.
- Ability to instruct students based on lesson plans provided.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Instructs students in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
- Teaches from existing lesson plans while maintaining the classroom schedule and encouraging student engagement.
- Tailors existing lesson plans to create suitable learning activities that address the various learning requirements of students.
- Fosters a classroom environment conducive to learning and aligned with students' maturity and interests.
- Uses technologies to enhance instruction.
- Follows written lesson plans and schedules as provided.
- Maintains standards of student behavior to create an effective learning atmosphere.
- Provides individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the student's needs.
- Provides adequate supervision of students and the classroom environment when the teacher is absent.
- Keeps accurate records.
- Models and teaches appropriate communication and language skills.
- Adheres to adopted Board of Education policies and procedures of the school district.
- Maintains professionalism and strict confidentiality of all students and parental information.
- Takes reasonable and necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- For long-term assignments, it may be required to devise, administer, and grade tests and assignments; participate in parent-teacher conferences; and attend school-related functions.
- Other duties may be assigned.
