Position Summary
Assistant Professor – Neuroscience (Medical School) – Washington University in St. Louis. The position is tenure‑track and opens at the Assistant Professor level. Candidates may come from any subfield of neuroscience (molecular, cellular, circuits, systems, cognitive, computational, or theoretical) and should demonstrate a passion for basic research and technology development applied to cellular, animal, human, and computational models.
Responsibilities- Develop and lead an independent research program in fundamental neuroscience, addressing questions such as nervous system development, synaptic formation, neural circuit function, neuromodulation, and glial biology.
- Design, conduct, and publish high‑quality research using cellular, animal, human, and/or computational approaches.
- Secure external funding to support research activities.
- Mentor graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and undergraduate researchers, fostering an inclusive learning environment.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in neuroscience and contribute to curriculum development.
- Collaborate across the biomedical community and participate in departmental and institutional service.
- PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent terminal degree in neuroscience or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated record of outstanding research achievement in neuroscience.
- Evidence of the ability to establish and maintain an independent, externally funded research program.
- Commitment to excellence in mentoring and scholarly activities appropriate for a tenure‑track appointment.
- Research program aligned with the Department of Neuroscience’s mission and strategic priorities.
- Experience with translational research bridging basic and clinical neuroscience.
- Background in imaging modalities, including cellular imaging and MRI.
- Demonstrated collaborative research across disciplines.
