About The Role
This position provides support for medical students in the School of Medicine for St. Louis, MO. The duties include coaching and advising career paths, programs, and future planning for our medical students through graduation.
Summary & Principal DutiesPonce Health Sciences University (PHSU) is seeking an Academic Advisor to provide support for medical students on our St. Louis campus. This individual should also maintain regular communication with our other campuses to ensure consistency and compatibility of academic support services across campuses.
To perform the job successfully the Academic Advisor should demonstrate strong communication, data analysis, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to interpret academic performance indicators and collaborate effectively with faculty, course directors, and Student Affairs. Familiarity with medical education structures, board preparation processes, and accreditation expectations, including LCME standards related to advising and student support, is preferred but not required.
QualificationsMinimum of a terminal degree in higher education:
PhD, MD, or DO preferred;
EdD with six months of related experience in health education.
Computer
Skills:
General knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel. Experience with virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom and Teams. Knowledge of Canvas application strongly preferred.
The employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to type on computer, operate office equipment and handle books, files, documents, etc. Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and to stoop or kneel. Must occasionally lift objects weighing from 10–30 pounds and possibly up to 50 pounds. Close vision needed to use computer.
Must have distance vision and depth perception.
The work environment is a normal office environment. Noise level usually mild to moderate. Requires ability to produce results in a fast‑paced environment. Independence and autonomy with little direct supervision required. Professional mannerisms expected as a representative of the university. This position requires leadership and the ability to accept performance feedback.
