Adjunct Instructor – BIOL
1600 Microbiology for Nursing

Saint Louis University , Department of Biology, invites applications for an adjunct instructor to teach one semester of BIOL
1600 Microbiology for Nursing. The course is a three‑credit hour, lecture‑based class covering human pathogenic microorganisms, including structure, pathogenicity, epidemiology, diagnosis, laboratory identification, antibiotics, and chemotherapeutic mechanisms. Students will learn to recognize infection, prevent spread, collect and manage specimens, communicate with the laboratory, and interpret laboratory reporting.

Course Schedule

Lectures: M/W 3:10–4:25pm. Weekly instructional hours: 10.

2026 (Fall semester). Salary: according to adjunct faculty pay scale. Adjunct instructors are required to join the Service Employees International Union Local1 or pay a fee.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver lecture material for BIOL
    1600 Microbiology for Nursing.
  • Assess student learning through assignments, quizzes, and exams.
  • Provide timely feedback and maintain accurate records of student performance.
  • Attend scheduled faculty meetings and contribute to departmental activities.
Qualifications
  • MS or PhD in Biological Science (or equivalent) required at time of employment.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate microbiology or related coursework preferred.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching and student success.
