Position Overview
The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures invites applications for the Felice Massie Distinguished Visiting Professorship of Spanish (one-semester visiting appointment). The appointment for AY 26‑27 is expected to begin on January 1, 2027, for the Spring 2027 semester.
The Department provides logistical support, housing, health insurance, travel funds, and a standard salary of approximately $60,000 for the semester of the appointment at Washington University.
ResponsibilitiesMain responsibilities during the semester of residence include teaching one (1) literature and culture course in the Spanish section of the department. Visiting professors are also required to present their work publicly (in English) in one public lecture and are encouraged to participate in the intellectual life of the department during their appointment.
QualificationsCandidates must have native proficiency in Spanish and demonstrate excellence as a writer in Spanish (including poetry, fiction, and non-fiction). The ideal candidate would also have a Master’s degree or PhD in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, or a related field, and previous college-level teaching experience.
