Student Support Specialist
- Community Programs

  • Part-time position, approximately4 hours/day,20 hours/week
  • Schedule: 12 months, Monday-Friday, to follow  Student Calendar, and will include summer camp programming
  • Hourly rate: $22.95
  • Non-exempt

Summary
:
As a member of the Lindbergh Community Education and Recreation team, the Student Support Specialist coordinates support and accommodations for youth program participants with disabilities to ensure equitable access and successful participation in Community Education and Recreation programs. While serving all Community Education and Recreation programs, this position primarily supports the inclusion needs of participants in Lindbergh Flyers Club and provides consultation, resources, and guidance to recreation and enrichment programs as needed.

The Student Support Specialist partners with participants, families, Lindbergh staff, Special School District staff, and Community Education and Recreation team members to develop individualized support plans, coach staff, foster inclusive practices, and promote participant success in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assess participant needs and develop, implement, and monitor inclusion plans to support successful participation in Community Education and Recreation programs.
  • Serve as the primary contact for families regarding accommodations, inclusion services, and participant support needs.
  • Provide direct support to participants as needed.
  • Collaborate with families, staff, district personnel, Special School District staff, and community partners to ensure effective inclusion supports.
  • Facilitate communication and problem-solving to promote participant success.
  • Serve as a liaison between Community Education and Recreation, Lindbergh Schools, SSD, and community organizations.
  • Train, mentor, and support staff in inclusive practices, accommodations, and positive behavior strategies.
  • Assist with staffing needs related to participant support services.
  • Advocate for equitable access and meaningful participation for individuals with disabilities.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of inclusive programming, policies, procedures, and resources.
  • Maintain knowledge of current laws, best practices, and community resources related to inclusion.
  • Maintain accurate participant support documentation and ensure timely communication of relevant information.
  • Serve on department teams and committees and represent Community Education and Recreation at district and community events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Preferred areas of study include Special Education, Behavior Analysis, Recreation Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, or a comparable discipline.
  • Three or more years of experience working with individuals with disabilities; previous experience working with school-age children with disabilities preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in designing and maintaining a positive, collaborative culture while supporting individuals with disabilities.
  • Experience reviewing and understanding educational documents such as IEPs, ISPs, and 504 Plans preferred.
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices and activities for children and adults.
  • Previous experience supervising employees is preferred.
  • Strong writing, analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work comfortably in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
