Special Solutions Private Learning Center is a dedicated tutoring and coaching organization that supports students from elementary through college age. The center emphasizes a “more success with less stress” philosophy, partnering closely with families to navigate the education process. Using a whole-child approach, Special Solutions provides academic support alongside coaching in executive functioning, advocacy, organization, and study skills. The team works to create a supportive, individualized learning environment that helps students build confidence and long-term skills for academic and personal success.
PurposeThe Reading Specialist is responsible for providing reading support, strategies, and intervention to students through individualized instruction. They are responsible for completing an intake assessment, tracking student progress, and completing assessments periodically to show growth and continued areas of needed support.
Role DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced and dedicated Reading Specialist to join our coaching team. This role involves working one-on-one or in small groups with students to strengthen foundational reading skills, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The ideal candidate has a background in literacy instruction, experience with structured reading programs, and a passion for helping students build confidence and a love of reading.
The Reading Specialist will maintain an open and continual line of communication with the management team in order to provide clients and parents with complete, accurate, and up-to-date information regarding their students. They will be responsible for filling out a workbook tracking their student’s progress during the program.
A degree in Education or a related field and at least two years of relevant experience are required while a certified reading specialist is a plus. Flexible scheduling is available for both in-person and online sessions. This is a part-time, on-site role located in St Louis, MO.

- Provide reading strategies, intervention, and support to students through activities grounded in the science of reading
- Maintain employee paperwork
- Adhere to company guidelines regarding student needs and confidentiality
- Uphold an atmosphere conducive to learning
- Maintain an accurate and comprehensive workbook
- Track and monitor student progress
- Maintain your employee record
- Communicate student needs and concerns with the management team
- Respond to work-related communication in a timely manner
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s in Education or a related field and/or 2+ years of relevant teaching experience
- Experience in coaching students
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to create personalized reading plans grounded in the science of reading
- Knowledge of current structured literacy and multi-sensory programs, etc.
- Patience and empathy in working with students
- Commitment to inclusive, student-centered practices
- Certified Reading Specialist
For the roles and responsibilities listed above, Reading Specialists will be paid an hourly rate based on credentials and experience.
