The Director leads Bascom Honors and works closely with faculty, students, and academic and enrollment partners across the university to carry the program’s legacy forward and shape a program that stands apart from conventional honors models.

The Director leads Bascom Honors and works closely with faculty, students, and academic and enrollment partners across the university to carry the program’s legacy forward and shape a program that stands apart from conventional honors models.
Responsibilities- Lead and grow the Bascom Honors Program, including its curriculum, signature experiences, and student community.
- Develop a service-learning component as part of the Bascom Honors Program. This will include organizing pedagogy and curriculum around identified learning outcomes. It is anticipated that all Honors students will participate in designated service learning courses/experiences.
- Articulate and pursue a vision for honors education that is distinctive by design, using experiential and interdisciplinary approaches that set the program apart.
- Connect the program to Maryville’s broader academic mission and student achievement framework.
- Advise and mentor honors students and support their pursuit of research, fellowships, and graduate study.
- Partner with enrollment colleagues on recruitment, access, and student success.
- Steward the program’s partnerships, including international and study abroad opportunities.
- Partner with advancement on fundraising, donor stewardship, and growth of program resources.
- Represent the program to internal and external audiences.
- An earned doctorate or appropriate terminal degree.
- A minimum of 10 years of faculty experience.
- A compelling vision for an honors program that is distinct from typical models.
- A record of teaching excellence, student mentorship, and academic leadership.
- Experience developing distinctive, interdisciplinary, or experiential academic programs.
- A commitment to the liberal arts and to authentic, rigorous learning.
- Experience building community-engaged learning or partnerships with external organizations.
- A record of fostering inclusive, globally minded learning communities; international scholarship or study experience.
- Experience developing research agendas or securing external funding.
