The Children’s House Assistant is a full-time, on-site role located in Greater St. Louis, supporting a Montessori classroom for children in the early childhood age range. This position works closely with the lead guide to maintain a prepared environment, including organizing materials, supporting classroom routines, and ensuring safety and order. Day-to-day responsibilities include observing children, offering gentle guidance as they engage with Montessori activities, and assisting with transitions, meals, and outdoor play.

The assistant helps foster independence, respect, and collaboration among children while modeling calm, positive behavior. Additional duties include light cleaning, preparing learning materials, communicating with the teaching team, and participating in staff meetings and professional development aligned with Montessori principles.

• Ability to support a Montessori learning environment, including observing children, following the lead guide’s direction, and helping maintain a calm, orderly classroom.
• Strong child-centered interaction skills, such as patience, empathy, clear communication, and respectful guidance appropriate for early childhood development.
• Organizational and classroom support skills, including managing daily routines, preparing materials, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring child safety.
• Collaborative teamwork skills, with the ability to work closely with educators and staff, give and receive feedback, and contribute to a positive school culture.
• Interest in or familiarity with Montessori philosophy; prior Montessori classroom experience or coursework is preferred but not required.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and an ability to work effectively with families and children from varied cultural and economic backgrounds.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in education, child development, or a related field is beneficial.
• Ability to meet physical requirements of an early childhood classroom, including sitting on the floor, lifting materials up to 25 pounds, and supervising active children.
• Willingness to complete any required background checks, training, and certifications in accordance with school and regulatory standards.
