We have an opportunity for a civil/structural engineer to join our forensic team in the greater Nashville/Knoxville area. This is a work‑from‑home role when you’re not doing field investigations—if you want the opportunity to escape the computer screen, this role is in the field doing inspections and investigations 30–40% of the time.
As the Project Engineer – Civil/Structural in our Forensics group, you’ll support delivering excellent project results and a stellar client experience.
Responsibilities- Investigate the origin and cause of failures, damages, or defects in civil/structural fields within residential, commercial, and industrial sites.
- Analyze building‑system failures, determine causes, evaluate construction quality, or review design/maintenance procedures.
- Perform field investigations, lead multi‑party examinations, and document damaged property.
- Research failure modes and code requirements as needed, and prepare recommendations for repair and/or remediation.
- Prepare reports and letters outlining the origins and causes of damages for our clients.
- Manage/coordinate with multi‑disciplinary teams on large, complex assignments.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering (or related discipline).
- PE preferred; EIT may be considered.
- 5–7 years of design experience in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
- Field experience is a benefit.
- 25–30%+ travel.
- Ability to work in inclement weather and various environmental conditions.
- Ability to work in high areas (roofs or scaffolding) requiring physical agility, balance, and resistance to acrophobia.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while prioritizing along strict timelines.
