Overview
Position Overview:
Arcadian is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Network Planner to support the design, optimization, and strategic planning of fiber optic infrastructure across our expanding footprint. This role will work closely with engineering, permitting, construction, and business development teams to ensure the efficient buildout of new fiber routes, including greenfield and expansion projects.
- Design and map long-haul and middle-mile fiber routes using GIS-based planning tools.
- Evaluate existing infrastructure and right-of-way options (e.g., rail, utility corridors, roadways).
- Develop high-level route designs and support the creation of construction-ready packages.
- Work with permitting and regulatory teams to assess route feasibility and constraints.
- Coordinate with internal teams and third-party vendors on route validation and documentation.
- Identify cost-effective deployment strategies that align with performance and scalability goals.
- Analyze market data and customer requirements to support strategic network planning.
- Maintain accurate documentation of planned and active fiber assets in internal systems.
- Contribute to RFP/RFI responses with route maps, fiber counts, and distance analysis.
- Support capital cost estimation and the creation of bill-of-materials for network builds.
- Other duties as assigned.
- 3–7 years of experience in fiber network planning, design, or engineering.
- Proficiency with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), Google Earth, AutoCAD
- Strong understanding of fiber network architecture and OSP design principles.
- Familiarity with permitting, rights-of-way, and utility coordination.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and construction documents.
- Knowledge of project management tools and workflows (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet).
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Telecommunications, GIS, or equivalent experience.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience with long-haul, middle-mile, or rural broadband projects is a strong plus.
- Awareness of federal and state broadband initiatives (e.g., BEAD, RDOF) is advantageous.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite products including Visio, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint and Google Maps
