We are searching for an experienced Superintendent, Power & Energy at our Tarlton HQ facility.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities Major Goals and ResponsibilitiesThis is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader in the power and energy market looking to advance his or her career with a growing company. The Sr. Superintendent/Superintendent (title commensurate with experience) will play a key role in driving Tarlton’s growth in the market and continuing our history of delivering successful projects for our clients.
Projects will vary in size and complexity across new and existing substations, switchyard, distribution and transmission line, and generation facilities in Missouri, Illinois, and southern Iowa. Self-perform work under oversight will be primarily civil and concrete in nature with electrical and other scopes being subcontracted. Based on a variety of factors, the position may oversee one or multiple ongoing projects at any given time.
This position will be responsible for the daily field operations and supervision of assigned projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. He/She will work closely with the Project Manager, Project Engineer, and Foremen to coordinate field activities, manage subcontractors, and maintain production efficiency for all self-performed and subcontracted work. This role will also require enhanced coordination with utility providers, specialized subcontractors, and strict adherence to electrical safety and energization protocols.
EssentialActivities General Responsibilities
- Lead, plan, and coordinate daily field operations from multiple projects.
- Enforce and promote all Tarlton safety policies and OSHA standards.
- Conduct toolbox talks and daily pre-task safety planning (JSAs) and participate in jobsite safety audits.
- Along with Project Manager, be responsible for achieving the project profitability goals.
- Review the project cost report with the Project Manager weekly and advise the Project Manager on monthly cost projections.
- Review, understand, and implement Tarlton’s contract with the owner/client.
- Review, understand, and implement Tarlton issued subcontracts.
- Ensure proper and proactive project start-up and close-out.
- Review drawings, specifications, and submittals to plan and sequence construction activities.
- Support the Project Manager and Project Engineer with submittals and RFIs.
- Direct foremen and craft workers, managing labor resources efficiently.
- Coordinate subcontractor activities and ensure work aligns with schedule and contract scope.
- Work with the Project Manager and/or Project Engineer to develop and update project schedules, including 3‑ and 6‑week look‑ahead.
- Maintain daily logs in Procore, including manpower, equipment, and production data.
- Track quantities and productivity using Tarlton cost codes and labor reporting systems.
- Ensure quality workmanship in accordance with the project specifications and all applicable quality standards and requirements.
- Identify and communicate field issues or design conflicts to the Project Manager and Engineer.
- Support layout and field verification through use of robotic instruments or BIM models when required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, professional job site.
- Attend all required project meetings, including coordination and safety meetings.
- Ensure strict compliance with electrical safety, including energized equipment boundaries, lockout/tagout, switching orders, and utility clearance procedures.
- Coordinate outages, energization milestones, and access requirements in collaboration with the utility or owner’s representative.
- Coordinate with utilities, engineers, and specialized subcontractors one equipment pads and foundations, grounding grids, duct banks, and control building installations.
- Interpret and manage work per Utility/Owner standards and requirements, facility/substation/transmission specifications, and industry best practices.
