System Designer (Fire Suppression)

The Role

As a Fire Suppression System Designer you will design fire sprinkler systems for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings. You will create finished representations for the sprinkler systems using drawing and drafting skills and tools. The drawings produced will guide every other link in the construction chain, both on‑site and in the office. The designer will be responsible for initial project planning, including scheduling, creating material stock listings, analyzing changes, and solving problems.

Close coordination with the project team will be required throughout the life of the project.

Responsibilities
  • Review construction contract documents and coordinate with sub‑contractors and the general contractor/owner to gather the required information to design the project’s sprinkler system.
  • Determine construction feasibility and system possibilities through analytical thinking and problem solving.
  • Perform job site surveys.
  • Evaluate project specifications and coordinate system designs with architects and contractors.
  • Create detailed drawings using AutoCAD, Revit, AutoSPRINK, Hydra

    CAD, or similar programs.
  • Create a stock list for all material required throughout the project, working closely with suppliers and fabricators.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations.
  • Develop positive and ongoing relationships with customers to ensure the company meets their expectations.
  • Coordinate with other office departments to ensure proper handover of job information.
  • Monitor project progress, reviewing reports to ensure compliance with schedule and budgetary guidelines.
  • Assist or lead field crews with design‑related items during the installation phase.
  • Report to owner and general contractor on progress and any necessary modifications.
Qualifications
  • Construction Management degree, mechanical engineering degree, or another applicable technical degree.
  • NICET certification required (In Training or Level I, II, III, or IV).
  • Demonstrated ability with AutoCAD, Revit, AutoSPRINK, Hydra

    CAD, or other specialized fire sprinkler layout software.
  • Three years of experience in commercial, industrial, and residential fire sprinkler design.
  • Detail‑oriented with skill in free‑hand and mechanical lettering and drawings.
  • Willingness to coordinate and work well with others.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to pass a post‑offer drug test, background check, and reference check.
