HDR is seeking a Substation Engineering Manager to lead teams in the design and construction of high‑voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects up to 500 kV. The manager will coordinate with project managers to deliver quality, reliable, and sustainable power systems.
Responsibilities- Partner with PMs; responsible for technical execution while PM handles schedule, budget, and client management.
- Develop and implement technical project execution plans.
- Assign tasks and provide technical guidance to team members.
- Support scope, schedule, and budget including proposals, work breakdown structures, risk assessment, change management, and schedule oversight.
- Coordinate quality checks and reviews for all deliverables as per HDR QMS requirements.
- Mentor, train, or direct Project Engineers, EITs, or CADD/Designers.
- Lead multiple projects concurrently across different locations.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to develop expertise; attend training and seminars to deepen understanding of complex concepts.
- Assist with drafting technical papers and presentations for conferences or other events.
- Participate in project reviews as needed.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Master's degree in Engineering.
- Prior experience at an engineering consulting firm.
- 10+ years of technical design experience with high‑voltage switchyard and substation projects up to 500 kV, including knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, and other design standards.
- Experience in consulting desired.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem‑solving, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience.
- Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., PE or P.Eng).
- Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market sector.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market sector design software (e.g., PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Auto Pipe, Revit).
