About Our Client

Join a well-established engineering consulting firm supporting major utility and power delivery clients across the Midwest and U.S. This company is experiencing rapid growth due to a strong pipeline of substation and grid modernization projects, offering long-term stability and opportunities to grow into senior design or engineering roles.

Job Description
  • Develop detailed substation design drawings, including:
    • Physical layouts & plan/elevation views
    • One-line and three-line diagrams
    • Wiring diagrams and schematics
    • Control building layouts and cable routing
  • Perform redlines and drawing updates based on engineer markups
  • Support AIS and GIS substation design projects
  • Utilize design tools such as AutoCAD and/or Micro Station
  • Assist with 3D modeling (if applicable) and clash detection
  • Ensure drawings meet utility, IEEE, and client standards
  • Coordinate with engineering and project teams to meet deadlines
Potential Projects
  • New substation builds (138kV-345kV) for expanding utility demand
  • Substation expansions & upgrades (breaker replacements, bus modifications)
  • Renewable interconnection substations (solar & wind projects)
  • Protection & control upgrades for grid modernization
  • Digital substation and automation projects

The Successful Applicant

A successful Substation Designer should have:
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD or similar tools.
  • Strong understanding of substation design principles and industry standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Background or experience in the energy and natural resources sector is advantageous.
