Job Summary

Integral member of the site Safety Team, ensuring a safe and quality working environment through training, awareness, and compliance to safety SOPs, corporate standards, and OSHA regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure safe working environment through training, awareness, and compliance to safety SOPs, corporate standards, and OSHA regulations.
  • Lead efforts to improve the site’s Safety Culture.
  • Develop and mentor others in creating Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and risk assessments.
  • Monitor and ensure workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state occupational safety and health standards.
  • Prepare and maintain required records.
  • Develop, communicate, and monitor EHS‑related metrics for the St. Louis Plant.
  • Investigate and prepare reports on injuries and incidents.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and champion change.
  • Conduct safe work procedures and safety training courses, including HAZCOM, Life Safety Permitting, and emergency response.
  • Provide input on equipment installation, start‑up operation, and troubleshooting.
  • Support engineering staff for project design and start‑up safety reviews.
  • Collaborate with project engineering staff to apply Prevention through Design techniques.
  • Monitor contractor EHS compliance through Browz system.
  • Ensure accountability, transparency, and effective communication cross‑functionally.
  • Provide EHS support for all Management of Change activities.
  • Utilize EHS management system software to capture, process, and evaluate incidents and near misses.
  • Supply high level of internal and external customer service.
  • Maintain acceptable 5S level in area.
  • Lead and participate in Root Cause Analysis teams.
  • Lead/participate in Corporate EHS Core team and Continuous Improvement efforts.
  • Lead/support EHS initiatives and EHS Capital and Maintenance projects.
  • Develop EHS strategies that ensure corporate sustainable solutions.
  • Participate in LEPC and RICERP industry groups for emergency response.
  • Respond to plant emergencies and provide field support or command center subject matter expertise.
  • Assist in compliance with DHS CFATS standards.
  • Manage and provide direction to subordinates as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational, Safety and Health Engineering or related safety/technical field.
  • 3–5 years of experience as a Safety Professional.
  • Experience in a pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing environment working with hazardous materials preferred.
  • Experience with internal and external audits and inspections for regulatory compliance.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Ability to prepare and communicate technical data to diverse audiences.
  • Physical ability to walk, climb and wear PPE, including full body suit and respiratory equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Title 29, CFR Part 1910 and Part 1926.
  • Ability to use safety management and engineering practices for continuous improvement of plant TRR and workers compensation rates.
  • 40‑Hour HAZWOPER training.
  • Knowledge of DHS/Regulations (6 CFR).
  • Chemical Vulnerability Information certified.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and achieve continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive change with influence.

Working Conditions

This position works both in an office and plant setting, both indoor and outdoor. Outdoor conditions will include temperatures and weather extremes in the St. Louis region. Overtime, early start, overtime and weekend/holiday coverage may be required. The position rotates on‑call duties and will respond to plant emergencies and mitigation activities on shift or off shift. The user may need to use PPE, including respirator.

The work environment may involve loud noise, vibration and hazardous materials.
