- Under indirect and intermittent supervision, produce all levels of drafting work on construction and rehabilitation projects on transmission substations, service buildings and other Company transmission properties; and perform related work as required.
- Prepare finished drawings from preliminary designs, diagrams, layouts, sketches, notes, specifications, or verbal instructions.
- Make study drawings, modify wiring drawings and assist with other electrical drawings in the development of construction projects.
- Perform simple calculations or use tables to determine wire sizes, conduit sizes, etc.
- Create wiring diagrams from schematics.
- Prepare schedules, bills of materials, etc.
- Occasionally review drawings of other Electrical Designer I or CAD Technicians.
- Assist in the department training program as a mentor, trainer, or other role assigned by supervision.
- Occasionally obtain detailed field information, usually accompanied by a Supervisor, Electrical Designer II, or others.
- Maintain and update information in the electronic drawing management system.
- Ensure quality and accuracy in updating and maintaining CAD drawings in accordance with standards.
- Avoid errors in field measurements taken by the employee.

Primarily in an office environment. When on field trips or assigned to a special on‑site project, the employee may be subject to the usual conditions of switchyards, substations, or other buildings, and to outdoor weather conditions. When in the field, personal protective equipment is required.

Qualifications- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Successful completion of the Company’s EEI Technical Aptitude test
. - Two years as a CAD Technician or three years outside the Company in CAD‑related work.
- Satisfactory completion of an Associate’s Degree in design drafting, computer‑aided drafting or other drafting technology at an accredited university, college or junior college.
- Satisfactory completion of at least nine credit hours in electrical design, electrical engineering or other study of electrical technology at an accredited university, college or junior college.
- Completion of the department’s Electrical Designer I training program and scoring at least 80% on the evaluation.
- For employees transferring from another department or new hires, completion of the Electrical Designer I Training Evaluation within the first six months of becoming an Electrical Designer I.
- Individuals who do not score 80% or greater are disqualified.
- Employees who have taken Electrical AC/DC from an accredited college, university, or junior college within the last two years may satisfy the Company AC/DC test with a score of 80% or greater.
- Failure to pass the test requires enrollment in the Company AC/DC course and passing the test with a score of 80% or greater within one year of employment.
- Failure to complete the Company AC/DC course results in disqualification.
