The Opportunity
Amentum is the Design and Engineering partner for Sellafield under the PPP (Programme and Project Partners). This 20‑year partnership delivers approximately £7bn of major projects, including site‑wide improvements and support services. The programme offers continued growth and development opportunities for professionals across regulated and comparable sectors.
The RoleSenior Mechanical Engineer – Lightly Shielded Store Project (LSS1), located in Birchwood. LSS1 is a 7,200 m² footprint new build for an Intermediate Level Waste store with a design life of 100 years.
Responsibilities- Plan and coordinate engineering and design activities for self and team members.
- Develop and implement engineering solutions for complex projects, from concept design through to manufacture and the full project life cycle.
- Identify design, statutory and regulatory requirements, and contribute to risk assessments.
- Produce technical reports, specifications and scoping calculations.
- Review technical deliverables, including reports and drawings.
- Present engineering solutions to stakeholders and during design reviews.
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (e.g., HNC/HND with significant experience).
- Attained or working towards chartered or incorporated status with a recognised professional body (e.g., IMechE).
- Experience in highly regulated environments is advantageous.
- Familiarity with UKCA/CE Marking, CDM, PUWER, LOLER, PED and Machinery’s Directive.
