Job Description
Our EPC client is seeking an Instrumentation Designer – Industrial Panels to join their team and support quality and inspection activities within their Houston fabrication shop. This role sits on the engineering design team and follows a hybrid schedule (in-office Tuesday–Thursday). The designer will primarily work within nVENT DTM software to support a variety of instrumentation and panel-based projects across three core work streams:
In-House Engineering & Design Projects- Support full-cycle engineering and design for internal panel and building projects.
- Create and develop design packages that are handed off to the production team for fabrication/build.
- Collaborate closely with engineering and manufacturing to ensure designs are accurate and buildable.
- This will be the primary focus area for the role.
- Partner with the operations group (where Hamilton’s team sits) on more dynamic, field-driven work.
- Review partial or pre-existing designs and complete missing elements, validate whether designs will function properly.
- Utilize nVent DTM 3D software to model designs and confirm feasibility, perform drag-and-drop component placement and wiring connections, and reduce manual drafting effort and minimize design errors compared to AutoCAD.
- Work from externally provided designs and adapt them to meet current build requirements.
- Troubleshoot challenges such as outdated (20+ year old) designs, obsolete or unavailable parts, incomplete or inconsistent documentation.
- Collaborate closely with the shop/production team to develop practical, buildable solutions.
- Requires a creative and problem-solving mindset to modernize and execute designs.
- Opportunity to gain exposure beyond design due to the small team environment.
- Potential to support QA/QC and inspection activities (if interested) and grow into project engineering responsibilities for more senior candidates.
