Position Overview
Join Kiewit Nuclear Solutions to help shape the future of clean energy in our Lenexa-based team seeking Estimating professionals with experience in Electrical, Mechanical, and Civil/Structural disciplines. Estimators provide material takeoffs, cost analysis, and preparation of discipline estimates for large and complex projects while maintaining historical databases and developing department procedures.
LocationThis position is based in Lenexa, KS.
Responsibilities- Review RFPs to determine scope of work and estimate requirements.
- Perform quantity takeoff development from drawings, specifications, and related documentation.
- Develop estimates to support proposal creation and bid submittal documents, including complex pricing sheets.
- Determine labor, material, construction equipment, subcontractor, and other direct costs for self‑performed construction execution.
- Analyze crew structures for composite rate development in union, merit shop, and prevailing wage labor markets.
- Become a subject matter expert with InEight Estimating software.
- Align bid packages to proposal requirements before issuing to subcontractors and vendors.
- Evaluate quote comparison sheets once subcontractor and vendor pricing is received.
- Contribute to construction execution plans; upon project award, the estimate serves as the actual construction plan.
- Assist Lead Estimator in identifying and mitigating risks and performing cost analysis.
- Participate in the estimate review process with internal and external team members.
- Assist in customer presentation preparation, if necessary.
- Analyze past project costs to determine successes and areas for improvement.
- After contract award, assist with project initiation by refining the estimate while working with business, project controls, and the production team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering/Technology (equivalent experience may substitute).
- 1–3+ years of experience in heavy industrial construction.
- Desired experience in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil/Structural disciplines.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Regular, reliable attendance and ability to meet deadlines.
- Effective communication and professional interaction with supervisors, employees, and others.
- Safety-first mindset: perform work safely and follow instructions, signage, equipment policies.
- Ability to work during normal operating hours; overtime and weekends as required.
- Flexibility to work at various locations.
Base Compensation: $84,000–$88,000 per year. Compensation may vary based on education, experience, skills, and location.
