Why Tarlton
Tarlton is a $300M General Contractor, Construction Manager, Design/Builder, and self‑performer headquartered in St. Louis. We specialize in technically complex work and are expanding our Power & Energy operations across Central Illinois and Southern Iowa. Our projects include substations, switchyards, transmission and distribution systems, generation facilities, and related infrastructure. Safety is not a priority—it is our core value. We are seeking experienced field leaders who want to help shape a growing regional operation while delivering complex projects safely, predictably, and with pride.
YourRole
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced construction leader in the power and energy market looking to advance their career with a growing company. The Superintendent / Senior Superintendent (title commensurate with experience) will play a key role in supporting Tarlton’s continued growth in the market while building on our long history of delivering safe, successful, and high‑quality projects for our clients.
Projects vary in size and complexity across new and existing substations, switchyards, transmission and distribution systems, generation facilities, and related infrastructure throughout Missouri, Illinois, and Southern Iowa. Self‑perform work is primarily civil and concrete in nature, with electrical and specialty scopes coordinated through subcontractors and utility partners. Depending on project complexity and experience level, this role may oversee one or multiple active projects, scopes, or phases simultaneously.
This role is responsible for leading daily field execution and supervision of assigned work, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. Working closely with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Foremen, subcontractors, and utility representatives, this leader drives coordination, production, and field problem‑solving while maintaining strong safety performance and disciplined execution. Success in this role requires strong operational judgment, proactive planning, and the ability to coordinate work in energized, safety‑critical environments.

- Build and maintain short‑interval and 3–6 week look‑ahead plans while proactively identifying and removing field constraints.
- Coordinate field execution across multiple trades, scopes, shutdowns, and critical path activities.
Safety Leadership
- Lead a safety‑first culture, including pre‑task planning, JHAs, energized work coordination, lockout/tagout awareness, and utility safety protocols.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, utility clearance procedures, energized equipment boundaries, switching orders, and site‑specific safety requirements.
- Coordinate high‑risk work activities, outages, shutdowns, and commissioning efforts.
Schedule, Quality & Technical Execution
- Review drawings, specifications, utility standards, and submittals to proactively identify risks, conflicts, and constructability issues.
- Ensure work meets quality expectations, tolerances, inspection requirements, grounding specifications, and commissioning readiness expectations.
- Coordinate utility‑related civil infrastructure including foundations, grounding systems, duct banks, cable trenches, control buildings, and equipment pads.
- Support sequencing of civil and structural work to align with electrical installation activities.
Project Coordination & Stakeholder Management
- Partner closely with Project Managers, Engineers, utility representatives, subcontractors, and owners to align field execution with budgets, schedules, procurement, and project priorities.
