This opportunity with Black & Veatch offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the Governments & Communities (G&C) Market Sector, supporting Water and Industrial Water projects and delivering critical infrastructure for municipal and industrial clients. Mechanical (piping) professionals contribute to project execution by developing and modifying piping layouts and models for water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, and conveyance systems.
This includes coordinating system routing and interfaces with process equipment, structures, and underground utilities to ensure constructable and efficient designs.
The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Assistant Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high‑quality engineering deliverables for these complex infrastructure projects. Under close supervision, this position performs technical tasks requiring basic knowledge of engineering principles and practices, with a focus on developing and updating 3D piping layouts and model‑based drawings using Autodesk Revit.
Key Responsibilities- Applies knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes and BV policies and procedures.
- May review project requirements and accurately determine the correct format and contents of the required deliverables. Proactively applies BV Quality Program to deliverables.
- Demonstrates personal accuracy and supports continuous improvement and change management efforts.
- Reviews design inputs in order to ensure consistency. Assists to ensure deliverables are in compliance with the specific codes and standards suitable for the project.
- May apply basic engineering principles and established design practices in developing moderately complex design concepts and deliverables.
- Begins to apply judgment and make decisions with respect to deliverables and input interpretation.
- Capable of handling difficult technical assignments within an area of expertise and can provide technical guidance to other professionals.
- Performs design calculations, detailed material quantities and estimates, and records.
- May review the deliverables of others.
- May define work assignments and maintain schedules.
- May program control systems or participate in other plant start‑up activities associated with a specialized area of expertise.
- Coordinates with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development. May support field activities.
- Focuses on the needs of internal clients while utilizing an understanding of external client's main interests and drivers.
- Proactively seeks and shares knowledge of latest technologies and processes.
- May apply judgment and makes decisions with respect to deliverables and input interpretation.
- Diploma or Certificate preferred.
- Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
- Typically a minimum of 5 years related work experience.

Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
Compensation TransparencyIn accordance with local requirements, the annual compensation ranges for this role are listed below by state or jurisdiction and reflect the applicable office location(s) within each. Final compensation is determined based on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, internal alignment, geographic location, and other factors permitted by law.
- State of Colorado: $74,360 - $124,190
- State of Minnesota: $70,980 - $118,545
