Estimator (Paving)

Keeley Construction is looking to hire an Estimator for our Paving Group in St. Louis, Missouri.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing cost estimates for small projects or defined scopes within larger projects.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and cost calculations using estimating software.
  • Gather and analyze historical cost data to support estimate development.
  • Compare subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure accurate scope coverage and competitive pricing.
  • Assist in identifying and quantifying risks, opportunities, and key factors that impact project costs.
  • Learn and apply company estimating processes, including the use of estimating software tools such as On-Screen Takeoff, Agtek, or HCSS Heavy Bid.
  • Support the standardization of estimating methodologies by documenting best practices.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to gain a fundamental understanding of construction requirements.
  • Assist in refining cost databases and tracking changes in material, labor, and equipment costs.
  • Work closely with senior estimators and project managers to understand project scope and deliverables.
  • Participate in bid reviews and pre-bid meetings to gain insight into estimating strategies.
  • Attend site visits to observe construction operations and understand real-world project execution.
  • Communicate with subcontractors and suppliers to request and review quotes.
  • Engage in professional development through KeeleyU and other training programs.
  • Actively seek mentorship and hands-on learning opportunities to build technical knowledge.
  • Work on improving soft skills, such as communication and presentation, to prepare for future career growth.
  • Take initiative in learning new estimating techniques and software tools.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field plus a minimum of two years of experience performing primary responsibilities listed above.
  • Proficiency with Outlook, Excel and Word is required. Bluebeam experience preferred.
  • Experience in construction plan reading and sourcing vendors for price requests. Ability to build and maintain a positive working relationship with staff, vendors, and clients.
