Substation Project Manager

HDR Engineering is currently seeking a Substation Project Manager to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals in St. Louis, Missouri. Primary Responsibilities As part of a well-established Power Delivery practice, you will have the opportunity to manage Substation projects in Missouri, Kansas and beyond. You will likely have prior experience managing and providing technical leadership on small/medium substation projects and are now ready to take-on a broader role overseeing all aspects of larger and more complex substation projects.

Additionally, you will have the desire to roll up your sleeves and work with a team of engineers and designers to help execute these projects.

As a Substation Project Manager your role will encompass the following:

  • Managing and leading substation projects throughout the entire project life cycle, including scope and/or proposal development, project team development and assignment, project execution, project closeout, quality control, schedule, and budget management.
  • Produce and coordinate several small to medium projects concurrently.
  • Working independently and/or directing, mentoring, training, and/or supervising one or more Project Engineers, EITs, Designers, CADD Technicians and administrative staff.
  • Leading the QA/QC process on projects per HDR's Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements with a commitment to delivering world class quality.
  • At times, being responsible for overseeing non-engineering components of projects, including public involvement, environmental permitting, right of way acquisition, construction management, and other services.
  • Leveraging existing staff across the company to execute work and deliver world class services.
  • Performing client management, project management, and/or technical support activities.
  • At times, supporting and engaging in broader business development activities with existing and target clients in the region.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, together with experience using project management tools
  • Ability to effectively understand and apply many of the following project management concepts is strongly preferred: project life cycle, contract terms and project risk, work breakdown structures, project scope/schedule/budget, project initiation, project planning, financial management and controls, including earned value, internal/external communication, team management, change management, and project closeout.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 7 years related experience
  • A minimum 2 years project management experience
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example:
    Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • MS Office and MS Project experience is required (Access experience would be plus)
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
