Position SummaryThe Controls Design Engineer is responsible for designing electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic control systems using Beckhoff PCs to control servo motors and VFDs.
Essential Functions of the Job- Project manage the machine from inception to delivery, ensuring on‑time, on‑budget completion, while assisting with troubleshooting.
- Design and detail control schematics and BOMs.
- Program PLCs and computers for a given machine project.
- Size and specify servo systems.
- Provide programming and debugging for PLC or PC based devices, develop company protocols.
- Design, layout, assemble, and test electrical control panels and wiring for machine and automation systems; may guide others in assembly work.
- Follow regulatory standards in designing compliant electrical systems.
- Provide troubleshooting of programmed devices with guidance from senior level advisement.

- Complete basic training tasks.
- Become familiar with all company policies and standards.
- Gain proficiency in the use of company IT systems.
- Apply basic knowledge of the honing process and troubleshooting.
- Understand structure and practices for all company departments with which the position interacts.
- Regularly stand, sit, walk, feel, talk or hear.
- Exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.
- Require clarity of vision at 20 feet or more as well as 20 inches or less.
- Good working conditions with occasional exposure to some elements, less desirable than a typical office.
- Broad knowledge of an engineering discipline equivalent to a Bachelor's degree.
- Minimum of five years of related experience; seven to ten years of overall experience for proficiency.
- Apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Interpret instructions written or oral.
- Work effectively and interact with others.
- Manage projects and lead work of peers.
- CRM, ERP, CAD/CAM software experience.
- C# and C++ real‑time programming.
- PLC and HMI programming (Beckhoff or Siemens preferred).
- Electrical panel layout experience.
- 2D CAD experience – wiring diagrams.
- Knowledge of NFPA 79, CE Machinery Directive.
