We are looking for a Lead Substation Design Engineer who can take ownership of substation design work, support clients and project teams, as well as reinforce ArchPoint’s standards for quality, safety, and clear communication.

The role will be responsible for leading and supporting substation engineering deliverables from planning through construction support. This role is ideal for someone who can work independently, guide technical decisions, coordinate with multiple stakeholders, and produce clean, practical, construction-ready design documents.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and/or review protection & controls designs: one-lines, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and interface details
  • Develop and/or review physical substation designs: yard layouts, plans/sections/details, grounding, lightning protection, control house arrangements, raceways, and auxiliary AC/DC systems, and associated bill of materials
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations and studies, including grounding, lightning protection, AC/DC load studies, conduit/cable sizing and related documentation
  • Prepare equipment specifications and support procurement, drawing reviews and factory acceptance test coordination
  • Coordinate design activities across with civil, structural, transmission line, protection, field testing, construction and client teams
  • Lead design reviews client meetings and technical correspondence
  • Provide field and construction support including site walkdowns, RFIs, as-builts, constructability reviews and troubleshooting support
  • Reinforce quality and safety expectations by displaying clear work and clean documentation
  • Develop and manage scope of work, schedules, cost estimates, and project milestones
  • Perform and lead QA/QC reviews to ensure engineering deliverables are accurate, complete and aligned with client standards
  • Support project planning, scope development, schedule input, cost estimates, and project milestones as needed
  • Reinforce ArchPoint’s safety, quality, and documentation expectations through clear, practical, and constructible design work
  • Support client relationships and technical proposal efforts as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • 10+ years of experience in substation design work in utility/industrial environments
  • Strong knowledge in substation design standards, practices and deliverables
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Micro Station, Bluebeam, or similar design/review platforms
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and organization skills
  • Experience developing KMZ files, layout exhibits, or site planning documents
  • Experience preparing grounding, lightning protection, AC/DC load, or other substation calculations
  • Experience supporting procurement specifications, factory acceptance testing, construction support, and commissioning
  • Ability to work and solve problems by demonstrating critical thinking skills
  • Prior experience mentoring junior engineers or designers-preferred
  • Professional Engineer license (PE)-preferred
