Role OverviewBEPC is seeking an experienced Principal Project Engineer to join our client's life sciences capital projects team in St. Louis, Missouri. This opportunity is ideal for senior engineering professionals with extensive experience leading pharmaceutical manufacturing, cleanroom, and brownfield capital projects.
In this role, you will provide technical leadership for a major life sciences expansion project, overseeing engineering work streams from planning through construction and project delivery. The ideal candidate has a mechanical, electrical, or process engineering background with expertise in pharmaceutical facility design, cleanroom construction, cGMP compliance, and capital project execution.
Key Responsibilities- Lead engineering work streams for large-scale pharmaceutical capital projects, ensuring successful delivery within scope, schedule, and budget.
- Provide senior-level engineering expertise throughout all phases of project execution.
- Collaborate with site leadership, project teams, contractors, and construction management to drive timely project decisions.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks while implementing effective solutions.
- Manage stakeholder communication and maintain strong working relationships across cross-functional teams.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, construction submittals, RFIs, and scope changes.
- Ensure engineering deliverables comply with pharmaceutical manufacturing standards, cGMP requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Develop project specifications based on customer and operational requirements.
- Drive project schedules, documentation, and engineering decision-making for assigned work streams.
- Support qualification, validation, and commissioning activities for cleanroom and classified manufacturing spaces.
- Promote continuous improvement while maintaining project quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering required;
Process Engineering background preferred. - Minimum of 15 years of experience leading capital engineering projects.
- Extensive experience with pharmaceutical or life sciences manufacturing projects.
- Strong experience with cleanroom design, classified Grade C/D spaces, qualification, and validation.
- Brownfield project experience is highly preferred.
- Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering background.
- Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing regulations and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Proven leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills within matrix organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage engineering work streams, schedules, risks, and documentation.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to travel to and work onsite in St. Louis, Missouri, Monday through Friday.
- Experience leading large pharmaceutical facility expansion projects.
- Expertise in cleanroom construction and commissioning.
- Experience managing contractors, construction activities, and engineering teams.
- Experience reviewing RFIs, submittals, and construction documentation.
- Knowledge of life sciences manufacturing processes and facility operations.
- Experience working on ADC (Antibody Drug Conjugate) manufacturing or similar pharmaceutical expansion projects.
This position is performed onsite at a pharmaceutical manufacturing construction site and requires frequent interaction with engineering, construction, and operations teams. Candidates should be comfortable working in active manufacturing and construction environments while managing multiple engineering work streams, supporting field activities, and ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
