Central Region Landfill Engineer

Lead the Future of Sustainable Solid Waste Management

Location:

St. Louis, Missouri OR Omaha, Nebraska (Relocation Assistance Available)

Travel:
Approximately 30-50%

Schedule:

Monday-Friday with periodic travel and occasional field support outside normal business hours based on project needs.

We're looking for a Central Region Landfill Engineer who wants to make a direct impact on landfill operations, environmental compliance, capital projects, and long-term site development while partnering with leaders across multiple states.

A Day in the Life of a Regional Landfill Engineer
  • Lead landfill cell design, construction, and development projects across multiple locations.
  • Partner with landfill managers and operations teams to maximize airspace utilization and improve site performance.
  • Manage capital projects from planning and budgeting through construction and project closeout.
  • Provide engineering support for landfill gas, leachate, stormwater, grading, erosion control, and environmental systems.
  • Develop scopes of work, cost estimates, schedules, and project budgets.
  • Coordinate activities with consultants, contractors, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with permitting, compliance initiatives, and environmental reporting requirements.
  • Conduct site visits to evaluate operating conditions, support construction activities, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Environmental, Maintenance, and Finance teams to support business objectives.
  • Help ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
Must Have
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in landfill operations, heavy civil construction, mining, earthwork, environmental engineering, aggregates, or related industries.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong project management, budgeting, and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work directly with field operations and senior leadership.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and engineering-related software applications.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the region.
Preferred Experience /Skills
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Solid waste, landfill, environmental, or geotechnical engineering experience.
  • Experience with landfill permitting, compliance, landfill gas, leachate, and airspace development.
  • Construction management and contractor oversight experience.
  • Experience supporting large-scale capital improvement projects.
