Build what is next in composite manufacturing.
Are you a materials engineer ready to move beyond theory and make a measurable impact in advanced manufacturing?
At The Gund Company, you will develop and improve thermoset composite materials, optimize manufacturing processes, and support technical projects across multiple facilities.
We are looking for a hands-on, curious, and driven Corporate Materials Engineer - Manufacturing who enjoys solving complex materials and process challenges, working cross-functionally, and turning technical ideas into reliable production results.
What You Will DoIn this role, you will partner with engineering, operations, quality, and plant teams to support high-impact composite materials and manufacturing process projects from concept through implementation. You will improve material performance, strengthen process controls, and help deliver measurable gains in safety, quality, yield, productivity, and cost.
You will:
• Serve as a technical resource for thermoset composites, engineered materials, product development, and manufacturing process
issues
• Support material development, resin and formulation adjustments, raw material qualification, testing, validation, and product
realization
• Develop, execute, and optimize composite manufacturing processes, including pultrusion, resin transfer molding, compression
molding, and lamination
• Establish and improve process controls, standardized operating parameters, work instructions, and manufacturing
documentation
• Use process capability analysis, statistical methods, and root-cause troubleshooting to reduce variation and improve process
robustness
• Support capital equipment projects, including specifications, statements of work, vendor bids, installation, commissioning, and
startup
• Manage engineering change controls and communicate technical standards and best practices across manufacturing facilities
• Analyze complex data and prepare clear technical reports, white papers, and recommendations
• Lead or support A3, FMEA, Control Plan, Lean, Six Sigma, DMAIC, and Green Belt continuous improvement projects
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across manufacturing, engineering, sales, quality, and operations
Requirements: What You Will BringWe are looking for someone with strong technical fundamentals, practical manufacturing experience, and the confidence to take ownership of materials and process improvement work.
Ideal qualifications include:
• Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related engineering discipline
• 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering, materials engineering, process engineering, or composites
manufacturing environment
• Background in thermoset materials, polymer composites, engineered materials, resin systems, equipment, or industrial process development
• Direct experience executing and optimizing core composite manufacturing processes (e.g., pultrusion, resin transfer molding, compression molding, or lamination).
• Proven track record in process capability analysis, root-cause troubleshooting, and establishing standardized operating parameters for thermoset materials.
• Practical application of continuous improvement frameworks (Lean, Six Sigma, DMAIC) to drive yield, waste reduction, and process robustness.
• Experience with process documentation, including FMEA, Control Plans, engineering change controls, standard work, or work instructions
• Experience supporting capital equipment procurement, specification, installation, commissioning, or startup
• Project management competency with strong…
