Job OverviewReports To:
Controller. Supervises:
Accounting Coordinator(s). The position is responsible for the daily operation of Payroll, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Income Journal, General Cashiering, Taxes and internal controls. May recommend and implement operational changes.
- Supervise the Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cashier and Night Audit employees; interview, recommend hiring, train, develop, empower, schedule, coach and counsel, conduct performance and salary reviews, resolve problems, provide open communication and recommend discipline and termination, as appropriate.
- Supervise the daily accounting operations ensuring compliance with SOPs and Federal, State and local laws and regulations.
- Analyze and reconcile all general ledger accounts and bank statements to ensure financial information is accurate.
- Prepare financial statements and reports to ensure accurate, timely information for management.
- Assist in the compilation and preparation of the annual budget, forecasts, taxes and other financial reports to support accurate, timely information for management and owners.
- Train, monitor and coordinate the implementation and maintenance of financial and cash controls and information flow throughout other departments in the hotel to ensure compliance, accurate records and minimize liabilities, losses and expenses.
- Resolve problems and maintain the accounting systems and equipment to ensure smooth operations.
- Analyze tenants, leases and rent reports and ensure the hotel complies with hotel leases and management contracts.
- Have a fiduciary responsibility to company and management.
- Assume the responsibilities of the Corporate Controller in absence.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned; participate in task forces and committees as requested.
- Travel required to other hotels and corporate for meetings, training and task forces.
- Hours:
Minimum 50 hours over a five‑day period; days and times may vary based on need. - Training:
The Staff Accountant must receive training in Front Office operation and Night Audit;
Accounts Payable and Receivable;
Income Audit and Restaurant Control;
Food and Beverage Control;
Payroll and Personnel;
General Cashier and Credit Management.
- Office Management

- Analysis of Balance Sheet Accounts
- Preparation of Journal entries, closing the books and preparing the Balance Sheet Package
- Interviewing and evaluating applicants and current employees
- Knowledge of all functions performed by subordinates reporting directly or indirectly to the Corporate Controller.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting, finance and hospitality professions; experiential knowledge for managing people and complex problems.
- Ability to analyze activities or information involving data manipulation or interpretation to arrive at logical conclusions.
- Ability to make decisions guided by established policies and procedures.
- Effective communication skills for providing information and services; supervisory skills.
- Must pass a background check.
- Excellent hearing to train and deal with management, employees.
- Excellent vision to read reports, computers, etc.
- Excellent speech communication skills to train and deal with management, employees.
- Excellent comprehension and literacy for reports, computers, ledgers, etc.
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
- A four‑year college degree (accounting preferred) or equivalent education/experience.
- Three to four years of full employment in a related position with this company or another organization(s).
- Lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying up to 15‑20 lbs. (usually boxes, computer equipment).
- Limited bending/kneeling required when arranging supplies or equipment.
- Mobility – limited, between offices and departments.
- No continuous standing, climbing or driving required.
- Work inside 100% of work period.
