Stratum NRG is seeking a Senior Project Accountant to support the financial management of multiple construction projects within a growing, dynamic organization in St Louis, MO. This individual will play a key role in job cost reporting, billing, financial analysis, and month-end close activities while partnering closely with Project Managers and Operations leadership.
This is a highly visible position that serves as a financial liaison to project teams and helps drive profitability, risk management, and operational efficiency across assigned projects.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and submit monthly customer pay applications, including all required supporting documentation and lien waivers
- Establish and maintain project budgets; review contracts for key financial terms and risk considerations
- Monitor job cost reports, forecast project performance, and identify risks and margin opportunities
- Partner with Project Managers to provide financial insight and decision-making support
- Attend and contribute to monthly job review meetings
- Prepare month-end journal entries and support the project-level close process
- Review and process subcontractor invoices for assigned projects
- Leverage ERP data to develop meaningful, value-added financial reporting
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within project accounting processes
- Support audit and compliance requirements as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- 7+ years of accounting experience, including at least 3 in Construction
- Strong understanding of job cost accounting and project financial reporting
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience working in ERP systems (construction ERP experience highly preferred)
- Ability to work cross-functionally with operations teams
- Strong analytical mindset with a proactive, problem-solving approach
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence project stakeholders
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
