Job Summary
The Tax Manager, Private Client & Family Office Services manages the full-life cycle of all assigned finance and accounting outsource engagements. Responsibilities include proposal development, staff assignment and oversight, final work product review and overall portfolio financial performance. In addition, the PCS-FOS Manager is responsible for client relationship management, including regularly meeting with the client and assigned staff, reporting financial information and making financial management recommendations, timely billing and resolution of client issues.
In this role, the Tax Manager, Private Client & Family Office Services is charged with applying knowledge to understand potential tax issues and recognizing and communicating potential risks and potential changes in the tax policy. The manager will also be involved in marketing, networking and business development within an area of expertise and specialization, and may be asked to provide written tax advice to clients.
Job Duties Client Service Delivery- Full‑life cycle of all assigned engagements, providing technical expertise in finance and accounting function:
- Perform complete general ledger reconciliation, including the entire balance sheet, and properly record transactions.
- Create accounting records such as bill payments, client invoices, payroll, and others.
- Identify and record adjustments.
- Produce accurate financial statements and provide financial analysis.
- Understand the technology packages clients use:
- Describe major functions of each system and how they operate.
- Explain the purpose and value of system functions that a client may not be using.
- Identify when a client is not using a technology package properly or efficiently.
- Learn new technology quickly, understand its essence, interaction with other technologies, and apply it to an engagement.
- Facilitate discovery meetings with clients using open‑ended questions to identify objectives, valued financial information, and map current internal finance and accounting structure.
- Design integrated solutions responding to specific situations:
- Know BDO’s services to identify when external services are needed and describe what they achieve.
- Outline solutions in concise documents and vet internally with leaders and stakeholders.
- Determine cost of building a client solution:
- Calculate the benefit to a client in dollar terms using the pricing process.
- Compare perspectives and, if sufficient margin exists, propose a fixed fee based on current scope for leadership review.
- Work with Senior Managers to formulate recommendations on technical accounting issues, financial accounting policies, procedures, and financial management issues:
- Educate clients on how finance and accounting needs will change as their business evolves.
- Assist clients in identifying areas of opportunity and future business needs.
- Periodically review solutions with clients to determine ongoing suitability and recommend changes.
- Learn to manage conflict and engage senior leadership proactively.
- Support clients through business changes and help develop and execute change management plans:
- Handle the full‑life cycle of all assigned engagements, providing technical management for all accounting areas.
- Gather necessary information for engagements:
- Maintain a running list of needed information and follow up to gather missing items.
- Organize information for easy team and client access.
- Create, develop, and maintain strong relationships with clients, internally and externally.
- Understand tax planning considerations and concepts for various business entities:
- Comprehend information on different tax return forms, analyze data, and have informed conversations with clients about business decisions and their tax implications.
- Appropriately refer tax‑related matters to Core Tax and Specialty Tax Services.
- Learn business development strategies and service offerings for various industries. Ensure prospect and sales information is entered into CRM.
