Launched in February 2010, Mercy Investment Services provides for the collective investment and professional management of the endowment and other investment funds of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas and their sponsored ministries, while working for a just and sustainable world and embraces socially responsible investing as a means of promoting systemic change, with emphasis in the areas of nonviolence, racism, environment, concern for women, and immigration.

Position Summary

The Manager of Investment Operations reports to the Chief Investment Officer and assists in directing the day‑to‑day investment management of Mercy Investment Services’ socially responsible investment program, including, but not limited to, implementation of portfolio structuring and investment manager and vendor selection decisions; coordination of program cash flows, including monthly transactions, investment rebalancing, and investment manager transitions; preparation of quarterly fund financial statements;

and leading the annual audit and tax reporting processes of Mercy Investment Services with respect to the investment function.

Position Responsibilities Investment Operations
  • Maintains primary responsibility for working with Finance and Administration and the program custodian to coordinate program cash flows, including monthly transactions, investment rebalancing, and investment manager transitions;
  • Prepares monthly rebalancing entries;
  • Responsible for completion of operational documentation related to managers;
  • Serves as primary investment liaison with program custodian;
  • Implements portfolio structuring and manager and vendor selection decisions;
  • Monitors external communications and ensures appropriate actions are taken (e.g., capital calls);
  • Oversees the organization and maintenance of investment‑related documents, including incoming correspondence, reports and tax information, ensuring accuracy and completeness of records;
  • Coordinates the review and oversight of the organization’s securities lending program with the program custodian;
  • Completes custodial requests for global tax‑related documentation, oversees collectability, and recommends valuation adjustments, as needed;
  • Maintains responsibility for the coordination of documentation and communications pertaining to participation in potential securities class action litigation;
  • Maintains investment manager, program custodian, and consultant contact information.
Compliance and Reporting
  • Leads the annual audit of the organization with respect to the investment function, including responsibility for the valuation, activity and reporting related to and covered by the audits of the Mercy Funds and the Sponsored Ministry Funds;
  • Works directly with external service providers to analyze, prepare and submit unrelated business taxable income and foreign informational filings;
  • Reviews and responds to audit confirmations from external investment managers;
  • Prepares Mercy Investment Services compliance reports for Chief Investment Officer and Investment Committee;
  • Prepares reports required by regulatory agencies and ensures compliance with state and federal legal requirements;
  • Maintains primary responsibility for preparing quarterly Fund financial statements;
  • Maintains primary responsibility for private equity investment performance tracking and reporting.
