Location: St. Louis

Overview

Our Safety & Soundness unit is looking for individuals to join our team of Bank Examiners. An examiner commission through a federal or state regulatory agency is a relevant factor in consideration for these positions. If you lack an examiner commission, regulatory, banking, lending, capital markets, Bank Secrecy Act, fiduciary activities or related experience in the financial services industry will be considered.

This position can be based in St. Louis, MO;
Louisville, KY; or Memphis, TN.

We value clear communication, financial and risk management analysis experience, and individuals who enjoy working as part of a team. Safety and Soundness examiners conduct community and regional bank examinations and bank holding company inspections.

Travel Requirement

Overnight travel is required, typically approximately 50 nights per year, or about 20–30% of workdays within the Eighth Federal Reserve District. Travel may include up to five consecutive days of overnight stays, primarily by vehicle, with some air travel. We provide flexible on-site work arrangements and a compressed schedule to support work/life balance.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate the soundness of an organization's financial condition, including capital, asset quality, earnings, liquidity, and exposure to interest rate risk.
  • Assess the effectiveness of risk management, including board and management oversight, policies and procedures, internal controls, and management information systems.
  • Ensure compliance with banking laws and regulations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a business‑related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Examiner commission or certification granted by a federal or state regulatory agency.
  • Five years of relevant banking experience (e.g., lending, capital markets, Bank Secrecy Act, or related areas). Candidates with less experience may be considered at a lower job grade or salary.
  • Ability to lead or participate in bank examinations or bank holding company inspections, or key areas within those activities.
  • Sound ability to create professional supervisory reports.
  • Knowledge in finance, accounting, lending, banking operations, or related fields.
  • Interest in coaching, mentoring, and developing peers.
  • Team‑oriented work style, serving as an enthusiastic team member or leader.
  • Travel: overnight travel required 20–30% of the year (approximately 50 nights).
  • Must live in or relocate to the 8th District and work from our Memphis, TN, Louisville, KY, or St. Louis, MO offices. Relocation incentives are available.
  • Position is onsite and not eligible for remote status.

Salary

Non‑commissioned examiners: $70,000 – $110,000
Commissioned examiners: $100,000 – $165,000
