- Shift information:
Day Shift: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (day shift only) – no nights, weekends, on-call or overtime required - Clients:
Support adult clients (26+) residing in St. Louis and St. Louis County, who are working to recover from the serious and persistent effects of mental illness - Location:
Community‑based work in St. Louis City and St. Louis County - MUST HAVE skills:
Completed MO‑issued CPS certification, reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and auto insurance; life experience with substance use disorder or mental illness and receipt of appropriate services; strong computer skills for EMR and Microsoft Office - Job responsibilities:
Share lived experience of resilience and recovery, model successful recovery behaviors, link clients with support groups and other community resources, connect with health & wellness activities, assist with employment or other activities that support clients’ recovery goals, work within an interdisciplinary team to develop and modify individual client treatment plans, teach and model symptom management and problem‑solving skills
BJC Behavioral Health is a community health center that provides and coordinates behavioral health services for more than 8,000 seriously mentally ill adults and seriously emotionally disturbed children in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. François, Iron and Washington counties. As an Administrative Agent of the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH), BJC serves as a major point of entry for people eligible for mental health services funded by DMH and is responsible for serving as gatekeeper to the public mental health system.
RolePurpose
Share lived experiences of recovery, support the use of recovery tools, and model successful recovery behaviors to help individuals with mental illness recognize their resilience capacity. Peer support activities assist individuals who have mental illnesses and substance use disorders develop a network for information and support, and achieve goals set in their individualized treatment or recovery plan.
Responsibilities- Start and sustain mutual support groups
- Promote dialogues on recovery and resilience
- Teach and model symptom management skills
- Teach and model problem‑solving skills
- Focus of duties for the different areas served:
- Rehab (CTT) Teams – identify what will improve quality of life, set goals and barriers, and contribute to treatment plans as a team member
- Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment (IDDT) – focus on recovery from both mental illness and substance use; require experience with addictions (personal or family) and familiarity with sobriety maintenance
- Transitional Age Youth – support skill development for young adults (16‑25) toward independence, with special attention to critical life skills; require similar experiences and close age proximity to engage youth
- Homeless – facilitate acquisition and maintenance of safe affordable housing; require experience with homelessness and having been successfully housed for the last two years
- High School Diploma or GED
