Overview
MO-SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital – Technical Surgical Technologist / Surgical Technician. Regular employee, full‑time, 40 scheduled weekly hours.
Job SummaryProvides technical scrub skills in the operating room during surgical procedures and assists the surgical team as needed in any other capacity. Must be energetic, highly motivated, and able to support the success of Saint Louis University Hospital.
Responsibilities- Demonstrates professionalism and follows established standards of practice.
- Performs care for patient safety and well‑being.
- Scrubs any procedure in the primary cluster skillfully and operates all equipment in primary cluster.
- Operates computer for correct data entry and adheres to established standards of practice.
- Demonstrates flexibility and cooperates with other personnel to achieve departmental and interdepartmental objectives.
- Cooperates with ACU and PACU and assists them when requested.
- Practices safety and infection control policies, including universal precautions and proper disposal of hazardous waste.
- Maintains a safe, clean, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients, families, and employees.
- Provides service excellence: demonstrates care and courtesy, listens to patient/family concerns, explains procedures clearly, and maintains confidentiality.
- Participates in performance improvement activities, collects PI data, and shares knowledge to improve workflow and reduce waste.
- Provides age‑appropriate care to infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients, following safety measures and communication techniques appropriate to each age group.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Prior experience or graduation from an approved surgical technician program preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Must be able to travel rapidly between operating rooms, wear protective clothing, and work in an environment with exposure to blood‑borne pathogens, chemicals, latex, and electrical equipment.
- Demonstrated organizational, planning, reasoning, judgment, problem‑solving, and safety awareness skills.
- Physical ability to perform prolonged sitting, standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs, and pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs.
- Manual dexterity and mobility sufficient for patient and equipment handling.
- Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA).
Day Shift (United States of America). Must be able to work alone, with others, and around others. Regularly exposed to risk of blood‑borne disease and must adhere to single‑use protective equipment and department dress code. Must be comfortable working with hot/cold materials and chemical agents.
