The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for addressing the social and communication needs of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Responsibilities include :
- Administer speech and language screenings/ assessments/evaluations.
- Develop and implement speech and language treatment goals and objectives.
- Determine Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) needs, strategies, and
systems for each student.
- Integrate AAC strategies and systems into the student's daily activities.
- Integrate evidence-based practices for autism spectrum disorder into therapy sessions.
- Collect data on speech and language goals and objectives.
- Use data to guide therapy planning.
- Generate clinical SOAP notes and maintain therapeutic records.
- Create necessary materials to support a variety of communicative needs.
- Integrate staff training on the use of communication strategies and devices.
- Collaborate with the team to address individual students' communication needs and generalize effective communication skills to all classes.
- Write quarterly reports for parents and districts.
- Maintain personal development, hold certification with the ASHA professional organization, and obtain state licensure.
- Mentor/supervise Speech pathology students and individuals needing supervision during certification probationary periods.
- Work in collaboration with the social skills teacher.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Communicative Sciences and Disorders.
- Professional speech and language certification by the State of Missouri.
- ASHA certificate of clinical competence.
- Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in providing speech and language treatment
infusing behavioral principles and techniques with individuals on the autism spectrum
and with related disabilities.
- Must have no physical limitations. The candidate must be able to lift. He/She must be able to participate in the CPI model of physical restraint.
