Position Summary
The Child Therapist provides therapeutic services to children and youth experiencing emotional, behavioral, or developmental challenges. The role includes conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, providing individual and family therapy, and coordinating supportive mental health services. The therapist works as part of an interdisciplinary team to ensure children and families receive high‑quality, timely, and evidence‑based care. BJK PHC Behavioral Health offers therapy specifically designed to help children and families deal with stressors they may experience.
PrimaryDuties And Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments of children’s mental health, trauma, social, family, and developmental history.
- Develop diagnostic impressions and provide treatment recommendations.
- Provide individual, family, and group therapy using approved curricula and evidence‑based treatment models.
- Create and maintain individualized treatment plans in accordance with program and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team—including case managers, psychiatrists, and support specialists—to ensure coordinated care.
- Provide crisis intervention when necessary as BJK PHC Behavioral Health offers walk‑in and phone crisis intervention services.
- Maintain timely documentation that meets corporate, legal, and compliance requirements.
- Participate in case consultations, clinical meetings, trainings, and quality‑improvement initiatives.
- Serve as a resource for families and community partners regarding child mental health needs.
- Assist youth and families in accessing internal and external support services including community integration, stabilization, and supportive consultation (consistent with community behavioral health service structure).
- Knowledge of child development, trauma‑informed care, and evidence‑based therapeutic approaches.
- Strong skills in active listening, assessment, crisis intervention, and treatment planning (consistent with clinical requirements in similar roles)
- Ability to build rapport with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organization, documentation, and time‑management abilities.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced clinical environment.
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field. (BJK PHC Behavioral Health listings require master’s-level clinicians for assessment and therapy roles).
- At least 1–2 years of clinical experience working with children or youth in a mental health setting.
- Licensed or provisionally licensed preferred (LPC, PLPC, LCSW, LMSW).
- Experience in community mental health strongly preferred.
