PURPOSE OF POSITION

Covenant House Missouri (CHMO) welcomes youth who are runaway, trafficked, at-risk, or experiencing homelessness with unconditional love, absolute respect and a place to call home. Beyond shelter and basic needs, we deliver transformative solutions to help young people ages 16 to 24 build productive, independent and sustainable lives.

The Therapist is responsible for providing support and individualized therapeutic services to youth, groups and families in a manner which reflects the mission, philosophy and policies of Covenant House Missouri.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

(Responsibilities to include but not limited to the following)

  • Complete various assessments for youth, including bio-psycho-socials and quality of life.
  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling.
  • Assist youth and families with identifying, maintaining, and developing natural supports in the community.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining good relationships with appropriate boundaries with youth.
  • Plan, schedule, and implement on and off site therapeutic activities.
  • Role model positive behaviors and coping skills for youth demonstrating strength based approach in all interactions and utilizing Trauma Informed Care and Positive Youth Development.
  • Provide crisis intervention counseling to youth and families as needed.
  • Record and maintain records, required paperwork, and documentation according to agency policy & procedures.
  • Regularly attend and actively participate in various team and individual meetings for the purpose of sharing information in regard to youth.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to:
    • Support individuals to identify client needs and assess relevant services and identify the best possible approach to providing services to the youth.
    • Utilize Trauma Informed practices and support a Trauma Informed culture advocating with and on behalf of individuals, according to their needs and wishes.
  • Provide information or refer individuals to established and preferred public or private agencies or community services for assistance.
  • Assist with the nurse and psychiatrist schedule rotation.
  • Provide in house professional development opportunities related to mental health.
  • Provide case management services as appropriate; coordinate additional services for youth as needed.
  • Collaborate with other staff to supervise youth participating in agency sponsored opportunities on and off site.
  • Participate in all required trainings and staff meetings, completing at least 40 hours of training annually.
  • Act in accordance with all organizational and legal protocol, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES

Practicum students

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Regular internal contact with all CHMO staff, outside contact with vendors and suppliers, and regular contact with outside agencies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Education & Experience
  • Master's degree in Social Work or Professional Counseling required, LCSW or LPC license required.
  • Experience with substance abuse preferred
  • 2 years working with adolescents preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience providing therapy in a therapeutic setting
  • Experience in a residential setting preferred
  • Case management experience helpful
