Field Data Engineer

On-site | Scott AFB, Illinois | Secret clearance with TS/SCI eligibility required

If you want to work close to the mission, solve complex data problems in real environments, and be part of a team that values trust, collaboration, and practical problem-solving, we would love to talk.

Why This Role Exists

This work matters and so do the people doing it.

Behind every operational decision is data that needs to be trusted, understood, and delivered in ways people can actually use. This role exists to bridge that gap.

As a Field Data Engineer supporting the USTRANSCOM Global Bulk Fuel mission, you will work in small, highly capable teams operating close to the mission. You will help transform messy, real-world operational data into reliable tools and insights that operators and leaders depend on every day.

This role is for someone who enjoys solving complex challenges, collaborating directly with end users, and creating solutions that are practical, reliable, and built to last.

What You Will Do
  • Go on-site and work in restricted environments to diagnose data issues across government systems
  • Collect, clean, reconcile, and validate messy operational data that may be incomplete, contradictory, or delayed
  • Build repeatable pipelines and scripts for both rapid fire drill analysis and long-term sustainment
  • Translate operator questions into concrete datasets, metrics, and dashboards
  • Work with system owners, security teams, and stakeholders to obtain data access and document data provenance
  • Create operationally durable artifacts including runbooks, monitoring checks, data dictionaries, and handoff documentation
What We Are Looking For

Required:

  • Strong engineering background, preferred in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, or related fields
  • Eight or more years of experience in data engineering or a related role
  • Experience working with Palantir Foundry or interacting with data in the Foundry ecosystem including Ontology SDK
  • Experience building and operating data pipelines from APIs in real-world environments including secure authentication, network constraints, and robust failure handling
  • Demonstrated empathy for end users and the ability to consider how data and tooling decisions affect workflows and trust
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or Type Script along with SQL, with experience building reliable data workflows in constrained environments
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical teams in rapidly evolving environments
  • Ability to operate in ambiguous, high-constraint situations with changing requirements and limited documentation
  • Willingness and interest to travel as needed

Nice to have:

  • Experience supporting logistics, sustainment, aviation, or readiness missions
