The Data Center Tier 2 Technician at Lightedge Solutions is responsible for managing, maintaining, and supporting all aspects of Lightedge data centers and critical facilities. This role performs advanced operational, maintenance, deployment, and troubleshooting functions while serving as a technical resource for the DC Operations team. The Tier 2 Technician utilizes and develops standard operating procedures, coordinates maintenance activities, manages hardware lifecycle activities, and ensures adherence to company audit requirements, change management processes, and operational standards.

This position works directly with technicians, support teams, project managers, senior leadership, vendors, contractors, and clients to maintain the highest levels of availability, security, efficiency, and customer service across all facilities. The employee will be a member of the DC Operations team and will report directly to the Datacenter Operations Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and reclaim data center hardware, network infrastructure, and associated cabling to support client and internal services.
  • Manage inventory, asset lifecycle processes, shipping and receiving activities, and maintain accurate operational documentation and CMDB records.
  • Monitor facility infrastructure, respond to alarms and incidents, and coordinate timely resolution of issues affecting data center operations and customer services.
  • Coordinate and oversee maintenance activities performed by vendors and contractors while ensuring compliance with established change management processes, MOPs, and operational standards.
  • Support new customer deployments, infrastructure projects, rack and cage installations, and hardware buildouts across local and remote data center facilities.
  • Participate in the on‑call rotation and provide after‑hours support for maintenance activities, emergency response, infrastructure optimization, and client requests.
  • Serve as a technical resource for the team by sharing knowledge, assisting with complex troubleshooting, developing operational procedures, and promoting best practices.
  • Contribute to the reliability, security, efficiency, and uptime of all 24x7 mission‑critical facilities and perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Minimum two-year technical degree or 4 to 8 years of equivalent experience in a technical environment or military occupational specialty (MOS).
  • Demonstrated experience supporting data center operations, infrastructure maintenance, hardware deployment, and asset management.
  • Advanced proficiency with data center cabling standards and installation practices, including Ethernet, telephone, CAT6, and both single‑mode and multi‑mode fiber.
  • Strong experience with server, storage, and networking hardware installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and reclamation activities.
  • Experience performing routine maintenance and operational activities within mission‑critical environments.
  • Familiarity with operating systems, enterprise hardware platforms, and supporting technologies.
  • Understanding of networking concepts, terminology, media types, and physical infrastructure requirements.
  • Experience working with building management systems (BMS), environmental monitoring systems, and computerized facility management tools.
  • Strong computer hardware and software skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and web‑based management tools.
  • Thorough understanding of data center cooling systems, airflow management techniques, and facility infrastructure best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, maintain, and improve technical documentation, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast‑paced operational environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients, vendors, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify issues, gather data, establish facts, and implement effective solutions.
  • Subject matter expertise in one or more operational disciplines such as enterprise hardware, network switching, CMDB platforms, ticketing systems, or related technologies.
