Department Profile

LCMS Communications is responsible for informing, reporting, and interpreting, in consultation with applicable officers and boards, the Synod's purpose, program and positions to its members and for promoting an increased understanding of the same to the public.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to the Director of Web Services.

Essential Job Functions
  • This position supports the rebuilding of LCMS.org and the long-term development of Synod-wide digital systems. Duties include designing, developing, and implementing the new LCMS website platform. It also includes providing input and direction on the strategic decisions regarding the future of Synod-wide digital systems.
  • Assists in implementing the information architecture design for the LCMS.org rebuild.
  • Supports the evaluation, selection and ongoing maintenance of LCMS webs technologies.
  • Helps design system integration approaches for the LCMS website, Salesforce, and other platforms.
  • Advises on Synod-wide digital architecture.
  • Supports the establishment of governance frameworks for content, data flow, and platform use.
  • Collaborates with internal teams and vendors.
  • Assists in evaluating hosting environments and cloud platforms.
  • Provides architectural documentation and technical guidance.
  • Works collaboratively across departments.
Education and Experience
  • Active member of an LCMS congregation preferred but not required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, digital strategy, or a related field preferred.
  • Seven years or more experience in web development.
Competencies (Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

)
  • Demonstrated experience in web architecture and platform strategy.
  • Five years or more of hands‑on Drupal development in an enterprise context.
  • Seven years or more working with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
  • Proficiency with Drupal configuration management.
  • Experience with integrating REST and SOAP APIs into Drupal.
  • Experience in a well‑defined SDLC, including CI/CD.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and/or AWS/Azure helpful.
  • Ability to develop documentation and architectural standards.
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to function independently and within cross‑functional teams.
  • Demonstrated project‑management skills.
