Lead Site Reliability Engineer

** About the Role
** The Business Operations team is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of our applications that power Mastercard’s global operations. You will be a technical leader, mentor, and automation champion, driving the adoption of best practices across development and operations.

Responsibilities
  • Develop subject‑matter expertise in Site Reliability Engineering, influencing stakeholders and applying advanced knowledge to achieve team goals.
  • Implement and maintain high‑availability system solutions, ensuring stability, performance, and operational continuity.
  • Evaluate operational requirements and design effective technical solutions within existing frameworks.
  • Lead automation and scripting initiatives to streamline operational processes and incident response workflows.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues, escalating as necessary to maintain system health and proactively address risks.
  • Contribute to documentation, knowledge sharing, and best‑practice guides to improve team operational procedures.
  • Conduct reviews and quality‑assurance activities to uphold organizational standards for system stability.
  • Keep current with industry trends and emerging technologies relevant to system reliability and operational automation.
  • Guide and mentor junior team members through on‑the‑job experiences, reviewing work and fostering continuous improvement.
Qualifications
  • Observability: design and implement solutions to collect, analyze, and visualize metrics, logs, and traces for incident detection and continuous improvement.
  • Programming and Scripting: write and maintain code in Python, Go, Bash, or similar to automate tasks and support monitoring, deployment, and incident response.
  • Systems and Network Administration: configure, operate, and troubleshoot Linux/Unix systems and network components.
  • Cloud Computing and Infrastructure: design, deploy, and manage applications on AWS, Azure, or GCP with a focus on scalability, security, and availability.
  • Reliability and Scalability: design and operate systems for high availability, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery while meeting future demand.
  • Dev Ops Practices: apply CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and orchestration to accelerate software delivery and operations.
  • Troubleshooting: systematically identify, diagnose, and resolve technical issues across systems, applications, and networks.
  • Capacity Planning and Performance Optimization: monitor resource utilization, forecast capacity needs, and optimize performance.
  • IT Service Management: apply ITSM principles to incident, problem, and change management for reliable service delivery.
  • Proactive Monitoring and Improvement (SRE Applications): use application reliability signals to anticipate issues and drive preventative improvements.

Competitive base salary (sample range below) and potential annual bonus or commissions. Pay Ranges

O’Fallon, Missouri: $122,000 - $207,000 USD
