The Opportunity

Network Defense is at the forefront of integrating advanced Linux systems into our cybersecurity framework. We are seeking a Linux Systems Engineer who is deeply passionate about leveraging their technical expertise to enhance our cybersecurity capabilities. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment where their skills directly contribute to strengthening our digital defenses.

As a Network Defense Linux Systems Engineer, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the security and efficiency of our Linux-based systems. Your expertise in Linux, combined with a keen interest in cybersecurity, will be instrumental in supporting our mission to safeguard our digital assets.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement shell scripts to automate system maintenance tasks, enhancing efficiency and reliability.
  • Configure and manage system logging, including remote logging, to facilitate thorough log analysis for troubleshooting and security monitoring.
  • Establish and maintain networking services, including firewall configurations and SELinux policies, to ensure secure and optimized system performance.
  • Utilize partitions and logical volumes to configure local storage solutions tailored to specific project requirements.
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain systems, ensuring software installations, updates, and core services are managed effectively.
  • Apply a solid understanding of networking protocols (DNS, SMTP, DHCP) and utilize network troubleshooting tools (tcpdump, Trace route, Ping, Netstat, nslookup) to diagnose and resolve issues.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Proven experience in Linux system administration, with a strong background in shell scripting and system automation.
  • Expertise in configuring system logging, analyzing logs for troubleshooting, and implementing secure networking services.
  • Familiarity with AWS services such as EC2, S3, Cloud Formation, and Terraform is advantageous.
  • Experience with automation tools like Ansible and version control systems such as Git Hub/Git Lab for script and code management.
  • A proactive approach to system optimization and a continuous learning mindset to stay updated with the latest in Linux systems and cybersecurity.
  • Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams to achieve system-related goals.
  • Active Top Secret/SCI Clearance with experience working on US Government contracts.
  • DOD 8570 IAT II and CSSP Infrastructure Support certifications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 7+ years of related experience in SEIM, network operations, network engineering, leading technology teams, leading operation cybersecurity teams, or a combination thereof.

Pay Range

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is: $75,200-$158,100
