Technology Informational Technician (IT)

The Technology Informational Technician (IT) provides on demand technical assistance and support for all networks and computer users in the district. This includes software, hardware and operational support to ensure minimal down time and greatest staff productivity. Typical duties include but are not limited to installing and maintaining computer systems including software and hardware; installing and testing network infrastructure equipment including switches, routers, servers, and associated cabling;

determining causes of computer/software/network malfunctions through evaluation and testing and resolve via additions, modifications, repair, or external support assistance.

Qualifications:

• Associates degree in related field is preferred.
• Communicate politely and effectively both written and orally.
• Coordinate effectively with user personnel and management at all levels.
• Monitor progress of projects.
• Work on multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
• CCNA or successful completion of the Introduction to Cisco Networking Technologies exam or one or more years proven experience supporting enterprise networking is preferred.
• Demonstrate the ability to configure and troubleshoot routers and switches with a minimum of assistance. This includes the Cisco CLI, serial, telnet and TFTP.
• Understand concepts and have the ability to troubleshoot problems relating to IP routing, routing protocols (OSPF) and VLANS.
• Have a solid understanding of network troubleshooting tools both hardware and software.
• One or more years of microcomputer service and repair experience.
• Demonstrated experience of current data processing techniques including state-of-the-art hardware and software capabilities.
• Demonstrated experience with Windows and Macintosh based equipment, Microsoft Office, and Windows 2000 or XP.
• Access to reliable personal transportation and possess a valid driver's license
• Ability to work hours other than 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Knowledge and experience dealing with E-mail and LAN/WAN issues.
• Any of the following certifications A+, Network+ MCSP, MCSE are preferred.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Assist the Network Manager or staff members with problems relating to daily or routine network or computer usage.
• Analyze problems reported through the IT Project Manager, Technology Supervisor or through on-site troubleshooting.
• Diagnose reported problems.
• Determine appropriate solutions for the problem.
• Advise appropriate staff members of possible causes of the problem and precautions necessary to avoid additional issues.
• Handle questions pertaining to software and hardware necessary to facilitate completion of job
• Provide on-site service in support of the IT Project Manager.
• Work cooperatively with IT Project Manager and Technology Supervisor.
• Alert the Technology Staff of developing issues and formulate potential fixes.
• Be able to articulate and manage issues related to network and or systems problems. This includes but is not limited to the IT Project Manager or Telco/Systems Providers.
• Install and maintain network and computer systems including software and hardware. Be able to install and test network infrastructure equipment including switches, routers, and associated cabling.

Mental Demands Be flexible as this position experiences frequent interruptions; required to meet strict deadlines; requires concentration and attention to detail; may occasionally deal with distraught or difficult individuals. Physical Demands Required to sit for prolonged periods; exposed to visual display terminal for prolonged periods; dexterity and precision required in the operation of a computer. Able to lift up to 70 pounds.
