Senior Cloud Engineer (AWS & Oracle Cloud Infrastructure)
Location: St. Louis, MO (Hybrid)
Duration: 12-Month Contract (Potential for Full-Time Conversion)
We are seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer with deep hands-on expertise in Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to support the design, implementation, and modernization of enterprise cloud environments.
This role is part of a Cloud Engineering team responsible for onboarding enterprise applications to the cloud while helping design and implement a long-term Oracle Cloud Infrastructure strategy. You will collaborate closely with Cloud Engineers, Enterprise Architects, Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, Application Development, Data, and Operational Technology (OT) teams to deliver scalable, secure, and highly available cloud solutions.
The ideal candidate has a strong engineering mindset, extensive cloud infrastructure experience, and a passion for automation, cloud modernization, and Dev Sec Ops .
Key Responsibilities Cloud Infrastructure Engineering- Design, deploy, and manage scalable, highly available cloud infrastructure across AWS and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
- Design and implement hybrid cloud connectivity between cloud environments and on-premises data centers.
- Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Cloud Formation, or OCI Resource Manager.
- Configure and manage cloud networking components including:
- VPCs
- Subnets
- Route Tables
- VPNs
- Transit Gateways
- Load Balancers
- DNS Services
- Evaluate cloud services and recommend architecture patterns aligned with long-term technology strategy.
- Lead cloud capacity planning, governance, and cost optimization initiatives.
- Monitor cloud infrastructure for availability, performance, security, and cost optimization.
- Troubleshoot complex infrastructure, networking, and application issues.
- Perform cloud maintenance including upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management.
- Design and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.
- Participate in production support and incident response activities.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement preventative solutions.
- Implement cloud security best practices across AWS and OCI environments.
- Design and manage Identity and Access Management (IAM) and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC).
- Support compliance initiatives including:
- NERC CIP
- SOX
- PCI-DSS (where applicable)
- Perform vulnerability remediation and cloud security assessments.
- Implement encryption, secrets management, Web Application Firewalls (WAF), Security Groups, and Network ACLs.
- Partner with cybersecurity teams on governance and cloud security architecture.
- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application deployments.
- Automate cloud provisioning and operational tasks using:
- Terraform / Open Tofu
- Ansible
- Git Hub Actions
- Jenkins
- Azure Dev Ops
- Implement monitoring, observability, and alerting solutions.
- Champion Dev Sec Ops practices throughout cloud deployments.
- Develop reusable automation modules and deployment frameworks.
Support cloud-hosted and cloud-integrated enterprise platforms including:
- Customer Information Systems (CIS)
- Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)
- Outage Management Systems (OMS)
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Energy Management Systems (EMS)
- Data Analytics and AI/ML platforms
Additional responsibilities include:
- Designing secure integrations between enterprise IT and Operational Technology (OT) environments.
- Optimizing cloud-hosted workloads for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Create and maintain architecture diagrams, technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
- Maintain cloud governance standards and best practices.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Participate in architecture reviews and long-term cloud strategy planning.
- Mentor junior cloud engineers and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Equivalent experience may be considered.
- 7+ years of enterprise Cloud Engineering experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), including:
- EC2
- S3
- RDS
- Lambda
- VPC
- IAM
- Cloud Formation
- EKS
- Strong hands-on experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), including:
- Compute
- Networking
- Object Storage
- IAM
- Oracle Kubernetes Engine (OKE)
- Experience supporting highly available production environments.
- Strong Linux and Windows Server administration experience.
- Deep understanding of cloud networking, hybrid connectivity, VPN, Direct Connect, and Fast Connect.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred).
- Experience implementing Dev Ops and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with enterprise regulatory and compliance frameworks such as NERC CIP, SOX, or similar.
