Job Summary
The Manager of Trade Compliance is a leadership role that will be responsible for developing and deploying our foreign trade strategy, ensuring compliance with international regulations, and optimizing cross-border transactions to maximize profitability. The core market of focus is North America, the ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment, USMCA and/or have been a licensed customs broker.
Experience in a matrixed environment and the ability to lead cross‑functional teams is essential.
- Responsible for customs compliance and trade operations support in North America.
- Knowledge of import/export operations. First point of contact for technical trade questions.
- Develop and deploy strategies and actionable plans to support compliant and efficient international movement of products.
- Lead contact with freight forwarders, U.S. government officials, customs brokers, internal and external customers on all matters pertaining to import and export regulations.
- Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPI) with a aim to drive continuous improvement.
- Lead implementation of communications, training plans and standard operating procedures.
- Work in collaboration with cross‑functional internal teams to create and enforce regional trade compliance.
- Keep up to date on tariff rates and regulations and assess the impact of these proposed changes on the business, including profitability impact.
- Owner of how the company makes product classification, including Harmonized Commodity Codes (HTS, Schedule B, ECCN) classifications and U.S. MCA.
- Proactively identify opportunities for duty efficiency through BOM/sourcing structure.
- Develop and execute tariff mitigation strategies including duty drawback programs, tariff engineering, country of origin optimization, and free‑trade agreement utilization to minimize landed cost.
- 7 or more years of related work experience in a manufacturing company, a professional services firm or importer or exporter.
- Deep technical knowledge of global customs, U.S. MCA, import and export process, incoterms, customs valuation, HTS code classification, country of origin, free‑trade agreements and export controls.
- Proven track record of improving profitability by successfully developing and executing international trade approach.
- Direct experience managing trade compliance within North America (trade lanes China, Mexico, U.S., EU in particular).
- Knowledge of current global trade developments.
- Experience in a matrixed environment and the ability to lead cross‑functional teams.
- Experience with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, or Bureau of Industry and Security.
- Licensed Customs Broker (current or expired).
- People management experience.
- Experience in directly using manufacturing ERP.
- Experience in a medium size company (+$1 billion sales).
- Domestic and international up to 5%
- English advanced / business fluent
