The Strategic Purchasing Specialist position is all about balance: aligning material availability, production capacity, and inventory levels to keep our operations running smoothly and efficiently. This role involves coordinating with various departments, monitoring production progress, and identifying and resolving potential issues that may impact the schedule. You’ll work closely with sales, operations, and procurement teams to ensure we meet delivery expectations with precision and cost-effectiveness.

Qualified candidates will have advanced negotiating and administrative skills and the ability to exercise production control and inventory processes. Candidates must also have 3-5 years of purchasing experience in manufacturing, with 2 years in demand planning or an equivalent role; knowledge and use of ERP/MRP systems; with Epicor (ERP) software experience as a plus.

  • Develop, publish, and maintain the Master Production Schedule (MPS)
  • Create detailed schedules that align with customer requirements, production capacity, and material availability
  • Collaborate with Sales, Customer Service, and Demand Planning to translate demand forecasts into executable production plans.
  • Identify and resolve capacity constraints and material shortages in advance to mitigate production risks.
  • Manage planning parameters such as lead times, safety stocks, and planning horizons in the ERP system.
  • Support new product introductions and engineering changes by coordinating production readiness.
  • Provide clear communication of production priorities and schedule changes to manufacturing and supporting departments.
  • Monitor slow-moving and obsolete inventory and develop plans to deal with it accordingly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills, Training, Knowledge &

Experience:
  • Associate Degree or Certificate in Business Administration, Accounting, or Procurement/Supply Chain and
  • Three to five years’ experience in purchasing or procurement support.
  • Strong spreadsheet and word processing skills.
  • General understanding of material and inventory control procedures.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English well.
  • Ability to use office equipment such as a personal computer, calculator, and copier.
