Senior Project Engineer – Steel Procurement

The Senior Project Engineer – Steel Procurement is an advanced, on-site leadership role responsible for overseeing and executing steel procurement logistics, delivery coordination, and material verification across complex or large-scale projects. This position works closely with the Project Manager and Senior Project Manager while serving as a primary on-site authority for steel delivery sequencing, fabrication coordination, and issue resolution.

In addition to performing core Project Engineer responsibilities, the Senior Project Engineer provides mentorship to Project Engineers, leads field-level coordination efforts, proactively resolves complex delivery and fabrication issues, and ensures steel procurement activities align with project schedules, budgets, and quality standards. This role is a critical link between CDC project management, fabrication shops, dispatch teams, and site operations.

The specifics of the role include:

  • Leading daily and weekly steel delivery coordination with Project Managers, Senior Project Managers, fabricators, dispatch teams, and site leadership.
  • Overseeing fabrication and delivery schedules to ensure alignment with project sequencing, erection plans, and field constraints.
  • Proactively identifying schedule risks, delivery conflicts, or fabrication issues and driving timely resolution.
  • Serving as the primary escalation point for steel delivery, logistics, and material sequencing challenges on site.
  • Overseeing and performing check-in of all delivered steel materials to verify accuracy, quantity, condition, and completeness against Bills of lading, shop drawings, shipping lists, and project requirements.
  • Leading resolution efforts for missing, damaged, or incorrect materials, coordinating corrective actions with PM/Sr. PM, fabricators, dispatch, and field teams.
  • Maintaining and auditing delivery logs, material tracking records, and discrepancy documentation to ensure accuracy and traceability.
  • Coordinating directly with fabrication shops regarding material readiness, shipping sequences, production status, and corrective fabrication.
  • Conducting and leading fabrication shop visits as required to verify readiness, sequencing, and quality.
  • Supporting PMs and SPMs with documentation for change orders, back charges, and corrective fabrication related to steel procurement issues.
  • Serving as the CDC on-site lead coordinating between Project Manager / Senior Project Manager, steel fabricator, dispatch and logistics teams, field supervision and erection crews.
  • Participating in and leading steel-related site meetings focused on sequencing, deliveries, and installation planning.
  • Supporting field teams by clarifying material locations, delivery timing, installation priorities, and resolution paths for steel-related issues.
  • Mentoring and guiding Project Engineers on delivery coordination, material verification, and documentation best practices.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives related to logistics planning, delivery sequencing, material tracking, and site coordination.
  • Contributing to the development and refinement of CDC steel procurement field procedures and standards.

Requirements:
