Position Overview

The Biome School is currently seeking a full-time Custodian. Starting salary is $17–$20 per hour. The position is full-time Monday through Friday from 7:00 am – 3:30 pm with occasional Saturdays as needed. Standard hours of operation may change due to seasonal or programmatic changes. This position is responsible for performing custodial duties to maintain the school's three (3) campus buildings as assigned in a neat, clean, and orderly condition.

Duties and responsibilities will take place in the campus buildings and outside on the campus grounds, as needed. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: cleaning classrooms, hallways, offices, gymnasiums, restrooms, and other areas as assigned; emptying wastebaskets and handling trash/recyclable. The individual may be required to perform minor maintenance; assist in setups for meetings/events; unlock and lock buildings; remove snow, and perform other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities
  • Keep building and property in clean and orderly condition
  • Perform routine maintenance activities
  • Perform heavy cleaning duties
  • Sweep, mop, scrub, or vacuum floors
  • Use cleaning equipment including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning solutions
  • Dust surfaces of buildings and furniture
  • Gather and empty trash
  • Scrub, sanitize, and supply restroom facilities
  • Clean windows, mirrors, and partitions with soap and other cleansers
  • Mix cleaning solutions and chemicals in containers as instructed
  • Follow procedures for chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
  • Clean and polish fixtures and furniture
  • Shampoo or steam‑clean carpets and rugs
  • Notify managers regarding need for repairs or additions to building operating systems
  • Lock and unlock facilities within assigned areas
  • Ensure proper care of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
  • Willingly work flexible hours including weekend work when necessary and overtime
Qualifications
  • High School diploma and at least two (2) years of experience in institutional cleaning
  • Working knowledge of cleaning products & procedures
  • Minor maintenance and equipment repair ability a plus
  • Available to work occasional Saturdays
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of integrity
  • Ability to understand verbal instructions and written and verbal communications
  • Ability to use the equipment and supplies necessary to maintain the school building
Physical Demands / Work Environment
  • Employee must regularly use hands and arms to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear; stand, walk, sit; occasionally climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; frequently lift or move up to 30 pounds
  • Exposed to indoor conditions, minimum outdoor weather and temperature extremes, moderate noise level
